While some people associate Med School with bookwork and lectures, a much more vibrant and exciting part of med life comes through the various sporting events. The AMSS brings active events which will stimulate the minds and move the bodies of the Med School faithful...not necessarily in the same way as other events.

Two of the biggest events on the sporting calendar have already been had including Med Volleyball on Friday 20 April and Med Footy on Friday 4 May. Be sure to get involved next year help keep these traditions alive.

The second semester brings more of a focus on running, culminating with the City to Bay, held on Sunday 16 April this year. As many people would be aware, the City to Bay is a 12km fun-run from the middle of town to the beach at Glenelg. The AMSS always enters a team with the novelty of pushing a hospital bed to raise money for charity. There are also 3km and 6km categories for those who find 12km a too daunting task. In the last couple of years a heated rivalry has developed between Adelaide and Flinders, with Adelaide taking the early advantage. To prepare for City to Bay you can also enter the Corporate Cup (see the page for details). For those who want even more of a challenge the Adelaide marathon is also run in August.

Keep your eyes and ears out for more information about other possible events for this year including Med Soccer and Med Netball. We are looking for these events to be run simultaneously indoors, to provide activities everyone can enjoy. We are also hoping to get the Dentistry students involved for some more friendly rivalry.

The AMSS has specialist running and cycling groups (Team Proteolysis and The AMSS Peloton) – members who get together on weekends for regular training sessions. It’s a great way to become friends with elder medical students (and doctors) who share similar passions.
