Welcome to the Adelaide University Psychiatry Society! (AUPS)
The AUPS is a student-led organisation that serves to: promote skilled psychiatrists in advancing society, foster interest among students, promote interdisciplinary research on key pathways to human flourishing and enabling discussions on complex issues.
We are a group of students interested in the field of psychiatry, curious about what it involves and passionate about promoting positive mental health. We have pizza nights with a wide range of guest speakers who speak to a variety of topics: ranging from forensic psychiatry to managing burnout as a doctor.
As well as having interesting discussion nights, which involve the opportunity to speak with local psychiatrists about their experiences and medical student opportunities, we also have regular events to promote healthy coping mechanisms and help everyone maintain strong mental health. 🏔️
What you can look forward to:
- Hike For Hope - an annual hike to one of Adelaide’s beautiful waterfalls, followed by a picnic with friends - raising money for a mental health organisation.
- Careers night - hear from a number of psychiatrists about their experience getting onto the training program and advice for budding psychiatrists!
- Psych Forum - where guest psychiatrists offer their insight on topical and exciting areas of psychiatry - in part years, this has included hearing from one of our local psychiatrists who doubles as a stand-up comedian. 🎤
- Research Night - a new initiative this year aiming to expose students to research opportunities.
- Movie night - for all to unwind and relax when life gets stressful.

Everybody is welcome to join the AUPS, whether you are passionate about psychiatry and want to meet experts in the field, curious about what it is, looking for research opportunities, or just want a group of friends to help through the challenges of med school.
