AHKMSS: Adelaide-Hong Kong Medical Students’ Society

Moving from Hong Kong to Adelaide is more than just a change in postcode — it’s a shift in culture, climate, curriculum, and coffee culture. As a minority within the cohort, many Hong Kong students experience culture shock, homesickness, and the challenge of settling into a new academic and social environment.
That’s where we come in.
The Adelaide–Hong Kong Medical Students’ Society (AHKMSS) is a home away from home. We are a community built by Hong Kong students, for Hong Kong students — creating a space where you can speak your language, share your experiences, and feel understood.
What We Do
🌱 Build Connections Across Years
We create vertical networks linking pre-clinical and clinical students, so no one navigates medical school alone. Senior students share survival tips, OSCE wisdom, and placement advice.
🎓 Engage with Alumni
Our alumni network offers mentorship, career guidance, and insight into pathways back to Hong Kong or within Australia.
🤝 Collaborate with Flinders University
We extend beyond campus boundaries, connecting with Hong Kong medical students and alumni at Flinders to strengthen our broader community in South Australia.
📚 Academic & Peer Support
Study groups, Mock OSCE, and resource sharing — we support one another academically as well as socially.
🎉 Cultural & Social Events
From Mid-Autumn Festival gatherings to casual yum cha catch-ups, we celebrate our culture and introduce it to the wider medical cohort.
